Ed Wilkes

Structural Engineer & Parametric Designer

Ed Wilkes is a structural engineer and parametric designer specializing in complex organic geometries and natural building materials. With over a decade of experience bridging computational design and hands-on fabrication, Ed brings technical rigor to projects that push the boundaries of what natural materials can achieve.

His work focuses on translating artistic vision into structurally sound, buildable reality, developing load calculations, connection details, and fabrication sequences for large-scale bamboo, timber, and hybrid structures. Ed has collaborated on installations and architectural projects across Southeast Asia and Latin America, always with a commitment to regenerative materials and local craft traditions.

As structural lead on the Resonance project, Ed is responsible for engineering the conch shell geometry to withstand climbing loads, seismic forces, and tropical weather conditions while preserving the sculptural intent of the design.

The best engineering disappears into the architecture. My role is to make sure the structure does exactly what the artist imagined: safely, beautifully, and with materials that give back more than they take.
